Setting your objectives for life.....

Ø Right at the beginning while you are considering starting your own business take a good look at your own objectives before you look at a business. What are you hoping to achieve in life? Have you even set yourself objectives for life or is life taking you on a journey and you do not where you are going? Or are you planning your life – ensuring that in everything you do takes you closer to your objectives?

Ø The journey of life is a short one and cannot be taken again. It is just this that should motivate you to accomplish all that you can. Taking the calculated risks required to reach your dreams are necessary steps towards achieving these objectives.

All too quickly we will be sitting on the front porch, on that old wooden rocking chair contemplating what life would have or could have been like if we had planned the journey a little better, if we had only set the objectives and strived to achieve them. Live your dreams; be passionate about whatever it is that you set out to do. Start your business with a vision, careful planning and true passion.

The business you are going to start must serve the objectives for your life. This will give your business meaning and purpose and you will be empowered and passionate about your business and your life.

Selecting a business that serves your objectives

Ø Now that you have determined what your life’s objectives are you can look for a business that will give you the opportunity to reach your goals. Your business must serve you, not you it. Far too often we get caught up in the work of the business that it consumes us and we quickly forget about our life’s objectives, our families and friends. We become consumed with doing the tasks that the business demands.

Financial Freedom

Ø The goals may often be thought of as – “financial freedom”. However financial freedom means different things to different people. You need to establish the amount of money that will give you financial freedom. If one of your goals is to sail around the world, then you need to establish what it is going to take and the related costs. Once you know what these costs are and only then can you picture a business that will serve you well enough to reach your objective – and sailing around the world can become a reality.

Setting a real time frame

Ø Make sure that the objectives that you set have a time frame – that way the target becomes real. Then ensure that the business objectives you set meet the personal objectives. Entrepreneurs are known for setting unrealistic goals. They aspire to achieve too much too quickly – it’s in their nature. Review your objectives and ensure by your actions that you are taking a step closer to meeting those objectives each day.

Harmony between sets of objectives

Ø Make your business objectives to be in harmony with those of your life. You will now be able to see that once you have achieved this your business will serve you and not you it. Each business objective met takes you closer to meeting the personal objectives that you are striving for.
